ResetNuclear Submarine Collection
The USS Nautilus (SSN-571) was the world’s first operational nuclear-powered submarine. Launched in 1954 and entering service in 1955, it marked a major breakthrough in naval technology.

Thanks to nuclear propulsion, Nautilus could stay underwater much longer than diesel-electric subs. On August 3, 1958, it became the first vessel to cross under the North Pole while fully submerged.

In its early missions, Nautilus set several endurance records. After retiring in 1980, it was turned into a museum ship in Groton, Connecticut.
