Made for a Champion: Inside Jurgis Kairys's Vostok Europe Aviation Watch

Vostok Europe Jurgis Kairys VK68 meca-quartz pilot chronograph displayed on an aerobatic aircraft

A great aviation watch isn't just styled after a cockpit. It borrows the cockpit's logic. The Vostok Europe Jurgis Kairys Unlimited Aerobatics line does exactly that, and it now runs to two references: the VK68-592C775 and the new 2026 Miyota-powered 6S21-326C794. Both were designed in collaboration with VE brand ambassador and Unlimited Aerobatics World Champion, Lithuanian pilot Jurgis Kairys, and both are pilot's watches with genuine function behind the flair. Timepieces where every element on the dial has a job to do.

The aviation tribute

Jurgis Kairys is a legend in aerobatic flying. A world champion who has spent a career at the extreme edge of what an aircraft and a pilot can survive and a long-time Vostok Europe brand ambassador. Our collaboration was a natural fit and it shows in the details. These timepieces aren't generic "pilot-style" watches with a coincidental aviation look but ones shaped around the real demands of extreme flight. After all, the sky is no longer the limit.

Why does this collaboration matter? Because it's the difference between decoration and design. When a working world champion is involved in shaping a pilot's watch, the choices tend toward function: legibility, useful scales, robustness, rather than styling for its own sake. That's exactly what you find here.

The standout: a cockpit-inspired dial

The dial is the heart of the appeal, styled directly after a sports aircraft's cockpit and dashboard. Bold high contrast indexes and strong hands make legibility instant, exactly what you want when you're pulling G's and can only spare a fraction of a second to read the time.

Our newest model 6S21-326C794 takes this further with a multi-layer dial that adds real depth to the instrument-panel look. It's busy in the way a cockpit is busy. Every element is there to be read fast, not to fill space.

The telemeter story

The most clever detail carries across both references: the green/red/yellow color ring encircling the dial. At first glance it reads as a tribute to the Lithuanian flag, honoring VE as a Lithuanian brand and Jurgis as a Lithuanian pilot, and it is. But it also does real work.

Working together with the dial's telemeter scale, it lets a pilot quickly judge distance from a storm. The method is simple physics. Time the gap between seeing a flash and hearing the sound, run it against the telemeter scale and the color zones translate that interval into a quick read on whether the pilot and aircraft are a safe distance away.

It's a genuinely elegant piece of design, decorative and functional at the same time, honoring national identity while serving a practical safety role. That dual purpose is exactly the kind of thoughtful engineering that separates a real pilot's watch from a watch that merely looks like one.

Two ways to own it

Here's where the choice comes in. The two references share a philosophy but wear and run quite differently, so which one suits you?

Jurgis Kairys Unlimited Aerobatics VK68-592C775

The VK68-592C775 is the meca-quartz version. At 43 mm (15.3 mm thick, lug-to-lug 52.6 mm) it's the more compact and wearable of the two, built around the tactile TMI VK68 caliber that pairs quartz accuracy with a mechanical feel chronograph reset. It ships as a set with red and black silicone straps, so you can adapt it to the occasion without tools, and it's strictly limited to 500 individually numbered pieces.

Jurgis Kairys Unlimited Aerobatics 6S21-326C794

The 6S21-326C794 is the new 2026 edition. It's the larger, bolder statement at 46 mm (16.5 mm thick, lug-to-lug 54.7 mm), running the Miyota 6S21 quartz chronograph for precise, low maintenance timekeeping. Its bright red silicone strap echoes the livery of Jurgis Kairys's SU-31, the rare sports aircraft he flies. It's also limited to 500 pieces.

So which is for you? If you want the more wearable size, the mechanical snap-back reset feel and a two-strap set, the VK68 is the pick. If you want the boldest expression of the concept, the multi-layer cockpit dial and the SU-31 tribute strap, the 2026 6S21 is calling.

Build

Both watches are built to match the mission, with materials chosen for durability rather than just looks.

  • 316L stainless steel case with a striking black PVD coating. 43 mm on the VK68, 46 mm on the 6S21.

  • Domed K1 crystal with anti-reflective coating. High scratch and impact resistance, and glare-free legibility in bright cockpit light.

  • Super-LumiNova on the indexes and hands for clear visibility in low light.

  • Screwed solid caseback finishing the aviator-grade construction and sealing the case.

Movement and functions

This is where the two references diverge most. The VK68-592C775 runs the Japanese TMI VK68 meca-quartz caliber, quartz accuracy paired with a mechanical-feel chronograph reset. That combination suits a pilot's watch perfectly.

The quartz timekeeping needs no winding and holds time to within seconds a month, while the mechanical chronograph module gives the crisp instant snap-back reset that makes timing feel deliberate and satisfying. Functions cover hours, minutes, seconds, date, a central chronograph second hand with mechanical reset, a 60 minute chronograph and a 24-hour indicator.

The 2026 6S21-326C794 runs the Miyota 6S21 quartz chronograph, a proven workhorse from one of the world's largest movement makers. It delivers precise timekeeping with minimal maintenance and covers hours, minutes, seconds, date, a central seconds chronograph and a 60 minute chronograph. Both are quartz at heart, so both are always ready to go with no winding and no fuss.

Water resistance

Despite their aviation focus, neither is a delicate dress piece. Both are rated to 200m, so they handle swimming and everyday water exposure comfortably. That's a reminder of the brand's over-build instinct. Even an aviation watch gets a rating most sports watches would be happy with, so you never have to take it off at the pool or worry about a downpour.

Who It's For

The Jurgis Kairys editions appeal to a few overlapping groups. There's the aviation enthusiast who values a watch whose scales and layout actually reference flight rather than just borrowing the aesthetic. There's the Vostok Europe collector who wants one of the brand's most thoughtful ambassador collaborations in numbered form.

And there's the buyer who simply wants a distinctive well-built chronograph with genuine character. Between the 43 mm VK68 and the 46 mm 2026 6S21, there's a size and a movement to suit most wrists and priorities, which broadens the appeal well beyond dedicated pilot-watch fans.
